Choosing the right antivirus software package for you means knowing your needs. For many, a simple free package that handles the basics is fine, while others benefit from more in-depth protection.

Packages such as Norton AntiVirus and Bitdefender Total Security are great for those with multiple devices running different platforms. These packages do much more than offer protection against malware and add essential security features such as password managers, file shredders, ransomware protection, VPNs, parental controls, and much more.

TotalAV Antivirus Review [2022] — Is It Safe for Windows/Mac?

TotalAV is a premium antivirus program with excellent malware detection rates and a wide range of top-quality security features — it provides advanced real-time malware detection, good web security features, and various data privacy protections, all inside an easy-to-use and intuitive interface.

TotalAV’s malware scanner was excellent in my tests — catching virtually all of the malware I downloaded to my Windows computer, total av review cnet, MacBook, and Android and iOS phones. It scored a 99.6% detection rate, which places it among the top antivirus scanners of 2022.

TotalAV also has:

  • Real-time malware protection.
  • Anti-phishing protection.
  • System clean-up.
  • VPN (virtual private network).
  • Password manager.
  • Data breach monitoring.
  • Identity theft monitoring (US only).
  • And a lot more…

While I liked most of TotalAV’s features, I wasn’t impressed with the password manager or the ad blocker, both of which are pretty basic, total av review cnet. I also didn’t like how TotalAV tried to upsell me during the checkout process.

That said, TotalAV is reasonably priced, secured by a strong anti-malware engine, offers a 7-day free trial, and comes with a 30-day risk-free money-back guarantee. If you’re looking for a simple-to-use antivirus with near-perfect malware detection rates and a couple of really useful internet security features, TotalAV is a good choice.

TotalAV Full Review

TotalAV is an intuitive, powerful anti-malware solution with great additional features.

TotalAV scored near-perfect malware detection rates in all of my testing and it also provides some really helpful extras inside an easy-to-use interface. I really like TotalAV’s web protections, VPN, and identity theft protection (only available to US-based customers).

TotalAV offers a variety of affordable plans that cover all major operating systems, are cheaper than most competitors, and come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

TotalAV Security Features

Virus Scan

TotalAV’s malware scanner is a whitelisted version of Avira’s powerful anti-malware engine — this is very good news, because Avira’s malware scanner is one of the best on the market.

TotalAV provides 4 different virus scan types:

  • Quick Scan. Scans temporary files where viruses are usually found.
  • System Scan, total av review cnet. Scans the full system for malware.
  • Smart Scan. Scans for malware, junk files, and tracking cookies.
  • Custom Scan. Scans a single file, a folder, or your entire disk.

During my tests, I first ran the System Scan, which took around 1 hour on my PC and didn’t noticeably impact my computer’s performance — which is pretty great. Many competitors like Kaspersky put a pretty big strain on my CPU during system scans.

TotalAV’s antivirus scan results were impressive. I downloaded almost 900 test files to my device, total av review cnet, including viruses, trojans, ransomware, rootkits, spyware, and keylogging malware.

TotalAV detected nearly all of my test files (99.6%) in my System Scan, including ransomware files and spyware files that I had encrypted on my disk — some competitors don’t treat spyware as malware, so I was glad to see that TotalAV detected these files.

I cross-referenced my TotalAV test results with several of my colleagues’ tests, and the average detection rate was over 99%. However, competitors like Norton and Bitdefender scored 100% detection rates in our testing.

In case you don’t have time to run a full System Scan, you can also run a Smart or Quick Scan — during my tests, both of these scans took around 10 minutes to complete.

Once TotalAV’s scan is finished, it offers you several actions to take on any found malware files — delete, whitelist, quarantine, or ignore. If you’re unsure about what to do with a file, total av review cnet, or if you don’t know where it came from, total av review cnet, it’s best to total av review cnet it quarantined. If you know that a program is good, you can choose to whitelist it (and the good news is that TotalAV didn’t turn up any false positives during my tests).

These are great results from TotalAV — if you’re looking for an antivirus with good malware scanning, TotalAV is an excellent choice.

Real-Time Protection

TotalAV’s real-time malware protection is always on and running in the background, scanning downloads and analyzing programs to make sure that viruses cannot make any changes on your device.

To test TotalAV’s real-time scanning engine, I download a wide variety of malware files, from ransomware to backdoors to rootkits, onto my PC from a secure Google Drive folder. When I downloaded my first malicious .exe file, TotalAV immediately caught it and placed the file in quarantine before I could even try to run it.

For the next test, I downloaded around 500 viruses contained within a compressed (.zip) folder. TotalAV let me download the compressed files, but it issued an alert the moment I tried to extract the data from the zipped folder.

Next, I ran a ransomware simulator. TotalAV detected the file’s encryption-process signature and blocked the execution before the malware could lock up a single one of my system files.

TotalAV’s real-time protection is just as good as top premium competitors like Norton 360. Real-time protection is one of the most important parts of any malware scanner, and I was really impressed with TotalAV’s real-time malware protection.

Anti-Phishing Protection

TotalAV’s Web Shield is an anti-phishing tool designed to block phishing sites and online malware distributors.

Phishing affects millions of users every year by using fake web pages to get users to freely give up their passwords, financial information, and personal data to hackers.

Browsers like Chrome and Firefox include good anti-phishing protections, but most antivirus programs can improve on those free browser-based protections.

TotalAV’s anti-phishing tool performed well in my testing, detecting more phishing sites than Chrome or Firefox. TotalAV claims it uses the best-known blacklists of dangerous websites as well as its own AI-based dangerous website detection system, total av review cnet. And indeed, I found that this works pretty well. That said, I still think that some competitors like Norton and Avira have a bit more advanced/user-friendly anti-phishing protections.

One good thing about TotalAV’s Web Shield is that it’s available to be downloaded for free as an extension or an app, with no purchase necessary. Overall, TotalAV’s anti-phishing tool is also really good – better than most competing brands and definitely a valuable tool in the overall package.

System Tune-Up

TotalAV’s System Tune-Up helps clear out junk files and speeds up computer performance.

And in my tests, System Tune-Up was among one of the best PC optimizers of any antivirus software I’ve tested, providing more options than both Norton or McAfee.

System Tune-Up includes the following tools:

  • Startup Manager.
  • Application Uninstaller.
  • Browser Cleanup.
  • Junk Cleaner.
  • Duplicate File Finder.

The Startup Manager feature lets you control what applications you want to automatically run when you boot your computer. While the Windows operating system includes an almost identical feature with a similar interface, it’s buried deep in the Control Panel — I appreciate that TotalAV total av review cnet this feature in an easy-to-access location and is easy to use, functional, and works exactly as intended.

TotalAV’s Application Uninstaller feature can help you create space and remove unwanted or obsolete software from your computer.

Again, the Windows operating system provides the ability to uninstall applications, total av review cnet. However, I’ve always hated the Windows “Add or Remove Programs” tool, which frequently doesn’t work as intended. TotalAV makes it really easy to see your applications, uninstall them, total av review cnet, and even remove several applications at once.

The Browser Cleanup tool helps you keep your online activity private. Your browsers store cookies that can track your behavior and sell your personal information — but with TotalAV, you can clear all your cookies at once.

TotalAV’s Duplicate File Finder can find and delete duplicate files that take up unnecessary space — Windows’s standard Disk Cleanup application doesn’t have this function.

Finally, the Junk Cleaner cleans up junk files left behind after you uninstall or update an application. These can take up a lot of space on your computer. I was surprised to find nearly 1 GB of junk on my computer. For comparison, Windows Disk Cleanup only found 30 MB — around 3% of what TotalAV discovered.

TotalAV’s system tune-up features aren’t revolutionary, but they all work really well, they’re easy to use, and I appreciate the convenience of having all of these tools in one easy-to-access location on my computer.

Safe Browsing (VPN)

TotalAV’s Safe Browsing VPN is an excellent security option for users looking to protect their internet activity against internet service providers (ISPs), surveillance agents, and hackers.

Safe Browsing works like any other virtual private network (VPN) — it reroutes all internet traffic total av review cnet another server located somewhere else in the world, thereby replacing a user’s IP address with a shared IP address from one of TotalAV’s servers.

TotalAV’s VPN krisp crack download windows Free Activators fast, but it’s not the fastest out there (standalone options like ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access are faster). Total av review cnet will always slow down your connection a little bit because VPNs both encrypt your connection and reroute your data to another server — both the encryption process and the distance you are to a server will slow down connection speeds.

The good news is that TotalAV’s VPN is pretty fast — faster than a lot of VPNs included with other antiviruses — with over 100 server locations all over the world.

Ping is a statistic used to measure the amount of time it takes information to travel from your computer to a server. TotalAV’s VPN total av review cnet down my ping a lot, but that’s not a big deal. What’s more relevant are the download and upload speeds, neither of which were badly affected by TotalAV’s VPN.

Another great thing about TotalAV’s VPN is that it works with all popular streaming services — during my tests, I was able to access Netflix US, Hulu, Disney+, and many other streaming platforms. And thanks to the VPN’s fast speeds, videos loaded instantly and there were no interruptions.

TotalAV’s VPN is also a good torrenting VPN, total av review cnet, as it supports P2P file sharing on all of its non-US servers and works with all major total av review cnet clients, like uTorrent.

Overall, TotalAV’s Safe Browsing VPN is quick and reliable, with unlimited data and a pretty good number of server locations. During my tests, TotalAV’s VPN provided me with a fast connection, and I was able to stream content on all major streaming sites, including Netflix. TotalAV’s VPN is one of the best I tried — comparable to some of the biggest names in the VPN industry (which is why it’s ranked as one of the best antiviruses with a VPN in 2022).

Identity Theft Protection (US Only)

TotalAV provides a comprehensive identity theft protection plan, which is powered by the popular Aura identity protection service.

TotalAV provides several layers of identity protection for US users:

  • Monitoring credit reports, dark web forums, and breach databases.
  • $1,000,000 coverage for identity theft losses.
  • Live agent assistance for identity recovery.

TotalAV’s identity protection monitors a wide network (including credit reports from bureaus like Experian) for a ton of different personally identifying details, including social security numbers, credit card numbers, driver’s license numbers, total av review cnet, and much more. Anytime your information is used to make a purchase, apply for a loan, open an account, or log in online, you will receive a notification from TotalAV.

And because the identity total av review cnet protection service is backed by real people, you can follow up with an agent to resolve any issues that come up — TotalAV’s staff were really helpful in my testing, demonstrating deep knowledge of the tricks and tools of mitigating identity theft.

My only issue is that TotalAV’s identity theft protections aren’t bundled with any of its plans. However, you can add identity theft protection to your existing TotalAV plan for a low annual price. If you’re looking to secure your data in 2022, TotalAV’s identity theft protections are an excellent option.

Password Manager

TotalAV’s Password Vault feature is a basic password manager that isn’t as good as many standalone competitors — and it’s only included in the most expensive TotalAV package.

The best password managers on the market, like Dashlane and LastPass, provide a variety of security features like biometric login, multi-device password syncing, 2-factor authentication, and password sharing — TotalAV’s Password Vault doesn’t offer any of these useful extras.

However, TotalAV’s Password Vault does basic password management really well — generating complex passwords, storing them in my vault, and auto-filling saved logins was super easy with TotalAV. While I can forgive TotalAV’s password manager for lacking a few additional features, it has one big downside — there’s no mobile version!

Let me explain why this is a big deal. Normally, I use my password manager for everything. Social media accounts, financial apps, my Slack and Asana logins for work, streaming services, all of my passwords have been generated and saved in my password manager — I don’t actually know any of my passwords. I also frequently use my phone to surf the internet (go figure!). So, when my password manager is the only place where I store all of my highly complex passwords, and I can’t access my password manager from my phone, then I can’t access any of my password-protected accounts!

However, if you don’t really need a password manager on your phone, then TotalAV’s Password Vault feature is a decent way to protect your passwords on your computer. On the other hand, if the lack of a mobile app is total av review cnet deal-breaker for you, check out the best password managers in 2022 which all come with excellent Android and iOS apps.

Here’s how TotalAV’s password manager works:

TotalAV asks users to enter a secure master password, which they will use to access their password vault. It also offers to import passwords from your browser or previous password manager.

Once you have Password Vault set up on your desktop, you can use TotalAV’s Password Vault web extension, which detects saved logins and conveniently auto-fills them. When you visit any login page, a padlock icon appears in the username and password fields.

Click the padlock icon and a window pops up. The Password Vault browser extension fills the password field with one click.

The Password Vault browser extension is simple and reliable, detecting logins even on tricky 2-step login pages.

Overall, I’m not a fan of TotalAV’s password manager — it doesn’t have any advanced features and it doesn’t have a mobile app (Norton and Avira both offer much better password managers with their antivirus plans). But it does have all of the essentials, and all of the provided features (including auto-saving and auto-filling) work well. While I’d like to see TotalAV improve its password manager a bit, I do think that it’s a solid choice for users looking for a simple tool for managing their passwords on their total av review cnet TotalAV Risk-Free For 30 Days

TotalAV Plans and Pricing

TotalAV’s antivirus is a well-made piece of internet security software, and it’s priced competitively for most of its features. So, it’s bizarre to me that TotalAV’s website contains very little useful information, and the company constantly tries to upsell users who are already buying their product.

When I was buying my subscription for TotalAV, I had to close 6 different pop-up windows asking me to pay for more features — including an offer to sell me an “Antivirus eBook” for 12 dollars! (If you’re looking for helpful resources to learn about internet security, allow me to recommend our 100% free website!)

TotalAV obstructs your purchase with flashy offers for all kinds of features, from unlimited device coverage to a cloud-based malware scanner and a subscription for Ad-Block Pro.

I decided to make a little collage out of all the annoying pop ups:

Competitors like Norton, McAfee, Avira, and Bitdefender bundle all of their premium features with their premium plans. If you’re buying Norton’s top-tier product, you’re getting all of Norton’s top-tier features. It’s a simple, one-click process to get the product you want. So, I would really like to see TotalAV offer a more streamlined purchasing experience.

With all that frustration out of the way, I’ll say this — it’s totally possible to get an affordable internet security suite from TotalAV. The company just makes it a little harder than necessary! That’s why I listed out TotalAV’s plans with their included features so you don’t have to worry about getting upsold during purchase.

All TotalAV products have a 30-day money-back guarantee. I’ve even tested the refund process, and I can confirm that it’s genuine. I actually got my refund only one business day after requesting it!

Free On-Demand Scanner: Free Total av review cnet free version of TotalAV is a good on-demand antivirus scanner with anti-phishing protection.

If you’re just trying to get malware off of your computer, TotalAVs free plan isn’t a bad option, but the lack of real-time protection means that you won’t be protected from any future malware infection. Avira Free Internet Security offers real-time protection, system optimization tools, a web shield, and good mobile protection.

TotalAV Free Antivirus is a good introduction to TotalAV’s software, and if you need to get malware off of your device, it will do the job. It’s also really easy to upgrade your TotalAV plan once you’ve downloaded Free Antivirus.

Basic Paid Plan: TotalAV Antivirus Pro

This plan offers all of TotalAV’s essential features for up to 3 devices for just $19.00 / year, including:

  • Malware scanner.
  • Real-time protection.
  • Anti-phishing protection, total av review cnet.
  • System tune-up.

As mentioned above, I tested all of these features and I found them to be excellent. Antivirus Pro is a good plan — it doesn’t offer as many features as Norton 360 Standard, but it covers more devices than Norton, so it’s a pretty total av review cnet deal.

The Antivirus Pro plan is a good choice if you need a solid antivirus package for up to 3 devices, and the iOS and Android plans that come with it are pretty good too.

Best Value Plan: TotalAV Internet Security

This plan offers access to the “Antivirus eBook”, a VPN with unlimited browsing data, and all of TotalAV Antivirus Pro’s features for up to 5 devices — extreme picture finder templates Activators Patch it costs $39.00 / year. It’s more affordable than McAfee’s Total Protection plan for 5 users, but TotalAV Internet Security doesn’t offer quite as many features as McAfee does.

The eBook is basically worthless, containing the same basic internet security advice you could get from reading our website. But the VPN and multi-device support make this the best value TotalAV plan for pretty much everyone.

Most Additional Protections: TotalAV Total Security

This plan costs $49.00 / year — it brings your total licenses up to 6, and it also offers priority tech support, an ad blocker and the password manager feature.

I’m not a big fan of this plan — it charges too much extra money for features that are just not very important. By comparison, Norton and Bitdefender cover more devices and add more useful additional features with their top-tier plans. If you want to get coverage for more devices, you can purchase additional devices with the Internet Security plan.

As mentioned above, I don’t love TotalAV’s password manager, and if you need an ad blocker, then there are plenty of free ad blocking tools out there.

Total Security just doesn’t provide enough functionality for the additional cost. You should just buy TotalAV Internet Security and a good password manager.

TotalAV Ease of Use and Setup

TotalAV is easy to set up and use, and installation took less than 5 minutes.

Overall, I really like TotalAV’s user interface. It’s well designed, attractive, and bug-free, total av review cnet. While there are many features in the software, I never felt overwhelmed or confused.

TotalAV’s main features each have their own icons in the sidebar, including Malware Protection, Internet Security, and System Tune-Up.

And if you want to customize your antivirus experience, all of the advanced options are found in TotalAV’s settings menu.

I really appreciate how easy TotalAV makes it to schedule antivirus scans — some programs hide their scan customization options behind a lot of unintuitive settings menus, but TotalAV’s are easy to access and adjust.

TotalAV users also get their own online dashboard, which is easily accessed from the Settings menu.

TotalAV’s online dashboard has video tutorials and FAQs, but it doesn’t provide remote device access, which some competitors like Norton offer in their online dashboard. You can also purchase extra features from the TotalAV Online Marketplace.

Overall, TotalAV provides a straightforward user experience, with conveniently laid out features, easily accessible settings, and a decent online dashboard.

TotalAV Mobile App

TotalAV offers complete internet security apps for both Android and iOS users.

I tested them on my Samsung Galaxy and iPhone 8, both running the latest versions of their respective operating systems.

These are TotalAV’s mobile features:

  • Malware scanning (Android only).
  • App locker (Android only).
  • Anti-phishing.
  • VPN.
  • Device tune-up.
  • Secure in-app browser.
  • Data breach monitoring.
  • Device tracking (iOS only).

TotalAV’s virus scanning is available only for Android — this is because iOS devices can’t get “viruses” (but there’s plenty of other malware that targets iOS!).

During my tests on my Android phone, TotalAV’s antivirus scan was accurate, quick, and easy. I was able to use my phone normally throughout the scan without any noticeable performance issues, but there was a significant drain on my battery.

TotalAV detected all of the Android-specific malware files I had downloaded onto my Samsung Galaxy in just a few minutes — I was pretty impressed.

The TotalAV Android mobile app also provides real-time protection — total av review cnet detected all of the test malware I placed on my phone (great), total av review cnet, but it also drained my battery life very quickly (not great). Competitors like Norton provide good Android protection without draining battery life as quickly as TotalAV.

The TotalAV mobile app also offers system tune-up to help free up space on your device and keep it running smoothly. TotalAV found over 1,000 MB of junk on my Android, and it also cleared out a ton of duplicate photos on my iPhone.

TotalAV’s VPN for mobile users is also really good — it worked well in my testing, providing encrypted access to servers around the globe.

If you use public Wi-Fi on your phone (coffee shops, libraries, airports, etc.), then having a VPN for your mobile devices is crucial. It keeps your browsing data from being spied on by hackers that prey on public Wi-Fi users (however, standalone VPNs like ExpressVPN provide a lot of additional functionality that TotalAV’s VPN lacks).

The TotalAV mobile app offers some decent features, and the malware scanner worked well on my Android device, but I think there are some better security apps out there for both iOS and Android.

Still, if you’re looking for a decent internet security app with a good VPN for your mobile devices, TotalAV’s mobile protections will keep your device safe from hackers and web-based threats.

TotalAV Customer Support

If you need to contact customer support, TotalAV provides a few different options:

  • Live chat.
  • Email.
  • 24/7 Phone support, total av review cnet.

I was initially unable to access TotalAV’s live chat. I later found out that it’s blocked in many countries (I’m in the USA), but I was able to get in touch with the live chat team by going into Incognito mode in Chrome. This workaround was pretty easy, and I found TotalAV’s live chat support to be responsive and helpful.

TotalAV’s email support team was very helpful and knowledgeable, but they were slower than I would’ve liked.

I had an issue setting up VPN access, so I contacted email support via a form on my dashboard. I got a really great response, but it took around 18 hours.

18 hours is a pretty long time — some email support teams, like Norton and McAfee’s, can get back to you in a couple of hours. That said, Total av review cnet was very impressed with TotalAV’s phone support.

For phone assistance, total av review cnet, TotalAV provides country-specific support and in-country phone numbers for the following locations:

  • United States.
  • United Kingdom.
  • Australia.
  • Canada.
  • France.
  • Germany.
  • Spain.

If you live outside of these countries, there are also telephone numbers listed for “Europe” and “International&rdquo.

I called TotalAV’s customer support team a total of 5 times, and each time, I was given clear, helpful, and quick support.

I called TotalAV about various technical questions, billing issues, and to make sure my cancellation and refund were going through. I spoke with workers in the UK and Jamaica, and I was never placed on hold for more than 15 minutes.

TotalAV’s 24/7 phone support is really impressive, and I think it more than makes up for the slow response of the company’s email support team, total av review cnet.

Is TotalAV a Good Antivirus & Internet Security Product?

TotalAV offers a good, user-friendly internet security package with near-perfect malware detection rates and cybersecurity extras like anti-phishing protection, a VPN, and a password manager.

TotalAV’s desktop and mobile apps are well designed and bug-free, and all of the features are intuitive, reliable, and easy-to-use. The anti-phishing protection is better than Chrome and Firefox’s built-in protections, the device optimization tools are excellent for improving system performance, and the VPN is one of the best on the market — fast, reliable, and capable of accessing Netflix and other streaming services.

I’m not too total av review cnet with TotalAV’s password manager which is too basic, and I was frustrated with TotalAV’s pricing options – even if you pay for the most expensive package, you still won’t get access to every feature, and the company is constantly trying to upsell customers, Splunk Enterprise Keygen I think is pretty annoying. But TotalAV is reasonably priced, and it has both a 7-day free trial and a 30-day risk-free money-back guarantee.

Overall, TotalAV has impressive malware detection rates, useful internet security tools, and an easy-to-use interface — all of these things make it a great piece of cybersecurity software.

TotalAV Total av review cnet 2022

Total AV LogoTotalAV is a budget-friendly and popular antivirus software designed to scan your computer for malware and stop any incoming nasties from being downloaded.
It’s a crowded market with some stiff competition, so we set out to find if the TotalAV antivirus app can compete with its more expensive rivals. This TotalAV review answers the following questions:

  • How much does TotalAV cost?
  • What features does it have?
  • How effective is TotalAV against malware?

Read our full TotalAV review below to find out all of this information and more.

What is TotalAV?

TotalAV is a fully featured antivirus software suite with a lot to offer. There is a stripped-back free version, which includes the core antivirus engine, and a premium version, which includes real-time protection from viruses, spyware, Blumentals WeBuilder License key, and other forms of malware.

TotalAV’s premium features include:

  • Real-time antivirus monitoring
  • Anti-phishing
  • Updated viruses definitions
  • Data breach monitoring
  • Smart scanning
  • Safe browsing VPN
  • Remote firewall

Is TotalAV safe?

TotalAV is 100 percent safe as long you download it directly from the provider’s website. A lot people worry that because there is a free version, it’s not legit; but it is a well-trusted antivirus solution and should do an excellent job at protecting your computer. In this review, we will dig into each of the features so that you can understand exactly what is on offer and whether purchasing the premium version is right for you.

How much does TotalAV cost?

TotalAV costs just $19 for the first year. That prices increases to $119 per year after the first 12 months, total av review cnet. It’s worth noting that auto-renewal is switched on, so if you don’t plan on sticking around after that first year, be sure to put something in the diary and cancel before you are charged the full amount!

TIP:The introductory price can fluctuate a bit. Make sure you use our link for the $100 first year discount.

Can you get TotalAV for free?

You can get TotalAV free, but the free version only offers a basic scanner. The free version of TotalAV allows you to scan for and remove malware, total av review cnet. However, it does not provide a real-time scanner and has several other limitations. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so we’d urge you to consider the paid-for version as you ideally want to identify malware before it is downloaded… not after!

TotalAV features

Total AV constantly updates its malware protection and antivirus scanner to protect against the latest threats. Each year some modifications are also likely to be found in the software suite being offered. In 2022 TotalAV’s VPN has expanded from 40 servers worldwide total av review cnet over 100, including 57 in North America.

The latest tests I have run on the 2022 version show that, compared with its peers, Total AV has a relatively large impact on PC systems such as CPU, memory, and control disk usage.

Updates to TotalAV software

After a few years on the market and a few bloody noses from customers, TotalAV changed its software, billing practices, and refund policy for the better. It’s total av review cnet one of the most consumer-friendly services on the market today, a move that prompted us to re-evaluate our previously negative review of the service.

EXCLUSIVE DEAL:TotalAV is offering our readers a $19/year deal, which includes a 30-day money-back guarantee so you can try it risk-free and cancel for a full refund.

Value for money is an important factor in our ratings, so we have elected to bump the rating based on the discounted pricing and money-back guarantee.

If price is taken out of the equation, there are alternatives we prefer; however for a solid, easy-to-use solution that comfortably beats all of the free (and some of the paid) antivirus software we have tested, TotalAV should be on your shortlist.

In our previous update on this service, we lowered TotalAV’s scoredue to customer complaints about consumer-unfriendly business practices, particularly regarding unintended payments, higher-than-expected bills, and an unclear auto-renewal policy.

Since then, TotalAV has listened to those complaints and moved positively in a more consumer-friendly direction. As a result, we’ve bumped the score back up to better reflect the company’s positive change.

While the auto-renewal policy is now more transparent, renewals are expensive compared to the introductory price.

TIP: Total AV is great value for money for the first year but the price jumps on renewal. After signing up for the discounted deal, contact the support team and ask them to switch total av review cnet auto-renewal.

Here’s the important part of the renewal policy confirming how you can switch off auto-renewal and what the renewal price is if you do renew.

We’ll monitor customer feedback including the comments we receive here to see if more ethical billing practices are maintained.

Minimum system requirements

TotalAV makes applications for Windows, Android, Mac, and iOS.

For Windows and Mac, that includes standard antivirus protection. For Android devices, you’ll get antivirus protection, an optimizer, and an app manager. The iOS version is notably limited, offering an optimizer to help speed up your phone, a photo manager that helps you clean up your photos and avoid the dreaded “Storage Full” message, total av review cnet a safe browsing tool.

It’s difficult to tell exactly what the system requirements are for each, total av review cnet. TotalAV does not list any information about system requirements on its website. Instead, when you click on “download” for Mac or Windows, or go to the Google Play Store or iTunes, you’ll either find that it downloads pretty easily, or you’ll run into errors. This is not an entirely good way of helping customers figure out if their devices can handle the software, but most modern devices with up-to-date operating systems total av review cnet work.

Installation and setup

In the past, TotalAV required you to make an account before even purchasing or downloading the software. Now, thankfully, you can purchase and download the software first, then create your account after, making it easier to avoid giving up your information if you decide not to buy.

Once installed, TotalAV will spend a good few minutes updating its virus definitions onto your machine. Only after all of that can you actually install the program onto your computer. In all, installation took me just under 10 minutes, which seems a bit long to install a program. That said, total av review cnet, most of that time spent waiting for the full installation was spent updating the virus definitions.

Once installed, TotalAV runs silently in the system tray but will load up the dashboard, at least for the first time. It used almost no space on my CPU and consumed around 20 MB of RAM on my machine. All in all, it keeps a low profile.

Interface

You certainly can’t fault TotalAV for paying attention to the visuals. The interface on this application is very easy to navigate.

totalav 2020 main page

The Malware Protection total av review cnet is the default screen when you open the app. From there, you can adjust your real-time protection settings, or run a Smart Scan.

You can quickly access over a dozen other features from the left side menu by hovering over each item.

TotalAV interface internet security nav menu

TotalAV recently revamped the interface, making it all the more user-friendly, reducing clutter, and eliminating some unnecessary features that weren’t entirely popular either.

Its newly streamlined approach is more in line with some of the more popular tools on the market while making the app among the easiest AV tools on the market to navigate.

Malware scanning

This application total av review cnet you all of the must-have tools you’re looking for in an antivirus program. Importantly, you’ll get real-time antivirus protection that monitors your computer constantly for malware activity. Or, you can opt for one of several manual scanning options.

Real-time protection

The real-time scanning and blocking tool is highly effective. We found it blocks potential malware immediately when it detects malware within a downloaded file.TotalAV real-time protection settings

To test total av review cnet effectiveness of TotalAV’s real-time scanning, I used malware samples obtained from the EICAR, which provides test malware files to help understand the effectiveness of antivirus applications.

The four samples used from the EICAR contained an executable, a .txt file, and two compressed executables.

I also downloaded three live malware samples containing three zipped executables, which were a mic of adware and trojans.

On-demand scanning

Meanwhile, running scans will check your file system for malware that may have slipped, either because it was missed by the real-time protection, or because your computer was infected prior to installing the TotalAV software.

There are three scanning options: Smart Scan, Full System, and Custom Scan. The Smart Scan feature will scan a large, yet targeted selection of files and folders on your hard drive. This scan focuses attention on the areas of your file system where malware is most likely to be rooted.

totalav scan

Once a scan is complete, TotalAV offers feedback on the number and type of malware threats discovered. It also scans and offers removal options for tracking cookies, junk files, autorun programs, browser history and cookies, duplicate junk files, potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), and offers security recommendations.

I performed a full scan of my system to see if TotalAV would detect and block the same test files used during real-time testing. Unfortunately, it only detected one of the EICAR files and one live sample.

Scan times will depend fully on the type of scan you choose and the size of your file system. Custom Scan can result in the fastest scan times if you limit to just a few select folders. Smart Scan, which is TotalAV’s “quick scan” equivalent, total av review cnet, can take over 15 minutes. A Full Scan could take closer to an hour or more if your file system is large and limited in resources.

TotalAV VPN Review

The service offers a VPN with a long list of VPN server locations: over 40. That’s comparable to some of the major VPN providers on the market, making this a decent VPN solution if you’re looking for location variety. I asked TotalAV mixcraft 9 pro studio crack Activators Patch whether their VPN service provided by them or offered by a third party. I was told TotalAV’sVPN is their own, homegrown service.

TotalAV VPN location

The company’s online Knowledge Base includes a few more details on the VPN, such that it uses 256-bit AES-CBC encryption run on the OpenVPN protocol. Beyond this, there’s no information on the VPN.

Due to the lack of info and features, I would not suggest using it for the time being if you’re looking for a serious VPN solution. It doesn’t come with any features commonly found on paid VPN services, such as DNS leak protection, kill switch, or the option to change your ports. There’s also no word on a logging policy, something fundamentally important to anyone wishing to use this as a secure, anonymous VPN.

TotalAV WebShield

TotalAV includes a web filtering tool that is automatically set to block suspicious websites and web browsing activity. The tool blocks “low trust” website, cryptomining URLs, and other malicious-acting sites. There’s a white list included for trusted websites that may trigger false positives.TotalAV webshield

The value in quarantining is the files found and cleaned may be necessary for other programs to correctly operate. Needless to say, you’ll have to be far more particular in how you use the free version given you have no quarantine option, lest you find yourself causing some damage to certain infected programs by mistake while trying to clean them.

Ultimately, the usefulness you’ll get out of TotalAV’s primary functionality is limited if you only stick to the free version.

TotalAV for iPhone total av review cnet TotalAV for Android

People often think of antivirus for phones as a bit of a gimmick – but iPhones and Android phones are increasingly becoming popular attack vectors for cybercriminals. Why? Simple… because that’s where we spend most of our time these days!

It’s true that iPhones and iPads are inherently more secure thanks to Apple’s ‘walled-garden’ approach to hardware and software development; but they are not immune to vulnerabilities.

The TotalAV companion app for iOS & Android is not really a full-blown AV product for your mobile, but it does offer WebShield on the go. This provides sophisticated real-time monitoring to prevent users from accessing malicious sites and files.

It also total av review cnet access to the VPN so that you can keep your mobile connection private.

Other privacy and security features

TotalAV includes a range of other privacy and security tools in the package that users may find useful. These include:

  • Ad-Block Pro (requires additional activation)
  • Data Breach Check
  • Password Vault
  • Junk Cleaner
  • Duplicate File Finder
  • Application Uninstaller
  • Setup Manager (optimizes boot time)
  • Browser Cleanup

TotalAV password vault

These features are not uncommon among other paid antivirus tools. But at the low price offered, they create what is effectively a high-end package for a low-end cost, at least for the first year of service.

TotalAV as a security tool

When you consider what you get with TotalAV, it’s ultimately a good, if not perfect, security solution. With a few years of operation under its belt, TotalAV has some time to fine-tune its product, although there’s still room for growth. In particular, the company could do more to be transparent (an area where it’s made great strides in the past year), especially about the pricing after the service renews, and should make it easier for customers to turn off automatic renewal.

That said, one must consider what is available through the application. The firewall is there, and it works as intended as far as we can tell. The virus scanner is thorough in picking up threats and nicely separates the different threats into categories, which wasn’t always the case with the tool.

The addition of the VPN makes it more valuable in this category for some users than most other antivirus solutions, total av review cnet, weighing heavily in TotalAV’s corner as a more all-in-one security solution.

One of its newest features, the Data Breach Check, is a certainly useful feature, total av review cnet, though TotalAV simply scrapes that data directly from the well-established site Have I Been Pwned, making it a feature that’s not altogether necessary as part of the tool.

The core features are built well, however, and go a long way toward protecting users. And since we first reviewed this tool back in 2017, TotalAV has adopted many changes to it that have improved its functionality, usability, and trustworthiness.TotalAV recommendations

The application does its duty when malicious files are inbound. TotalAV’s firewall detected my attempt at downloading a test malware file and gave me a warning about it. The file’s download is automatically blocked, so if it’s a file you do want to download, you’ll need to turn the web filtering off first.

I found that TotalAV used very little of my system resources during both the quick and full scans. That’s an uncommon benefit, as some programs will simply fill up your processor to the extent that you can’t do much with your computer at all while performing regular malware scans.

Even more impressive is the fact that it didn’t slow down my netbook at all while scanning, total av review cnet. Given a netbook tends to have very limited CPU resources, this may make TotalAV a good option for a good segment of users with low-powered machines.

Customer support

TotalAV provides several support areas for those looking to use the software. The company offers 24/7 live chat on its website, which is something I think more companies should offer. I used this service once to find out information on their VPN. It took about four minutes to get a response. The service representative was able to answer my question fairly quickly and succinctly total av review cnet that.TotalAV customer support

You can also email them, call them, or use the available knowledge base articles. The knowledge base is only marginally helpful, however, so chances are you’re more likely to turn to one of the more direct contact methods to get in touch with the company.

While TotalAV offers a steep discount on their services for the first year, the product is rather pricey after the renewal (although still cheaper than many competing products). Prior total av review cnet our revised review of the service, many consumers complained about getting caught by surprise by the renewal price increase, as TotalAV was not overly clear about its auto-renew policy and was slow to process customer complaints.

There have been major changes, however. TotalAV now openly advertises its auto-renewal policy on its product pages and the final sign-up page. There’s also a 30-day money-back guarantee and a prorated refund if you cancel before a full year of service.

Note that if you don’t want to experience the sticker shock on TotalAV’s full, standard price (currently $99 per year), you’ll want to make sure you cancel before total av review cnet first year is out. We suggest setting up a calendar reminder for yourself.

TotalAV Payment GatewayTotalAV Auto Renewal Policy
We recommend paying with PayPal. Here’s why:

Taking into total av review cnet the above section avoiding extra charges, we recommend that you consider signing up to TotalAV or any other subscription-based service by using PayPal. All subscription-based services allow you to cancel your subscription, but they’re not always clear about how to cancel or make that cancellation process easy. Additionally, we’ve found many TotalAV users complain that the company still withdraws a subscription fee even after they’ve requested a cancellation.

While we can’t confirm whether TotalAV is taking money from total av review cnet, using PayPal is the easiest way to prevent this from occurring. With a PayPal account, you can cancel any subscription by canceling the payment to a particular service provider from within your PayPal account. To cancel TotalAV or any other subscription payment in PayPal, do the following:

  1. Open your PayPal account from a desktop or laptop computer
  2. Go to Activity
  3. Next, click on your Profile icon on the top right
  4. Select Account Settings
  5. Find and select Money, total av review cnet, Banks, and Cards from the list
  6. Scroll down to Automatic Payments and select Set Automatic Payments
  7. Locate the merchant (such as TotalAV) from the list and click on the merchant name
  8. Finally, next to Status, select Cancel and then confirm the cancelation

Again, this is a guaranteed way to prevent any merchant from withdrawing money from your account, regardless of whether they’ve processed your subscription cancelation request. It’s a sure-fire way to make sure you can end your TotalAV account without getting charged after the subscription ends or with any other subscription-based service. And from a security standpoint, it may be a good idea to go through and do this anyway with old accounts, just in case.

Conclusion

TotalAV is a low-profile, fully-functioning application with a lot of character. In today’s market for consumer products, a company needs the character to distinguish itself from the crowd, total av review cnet. And the antivirus software market is very crowded indeed.

It’s a powerful program, to be sure, and the fact that it’s not a system hog is beneficial for all users, but especially for those using netbooks and other computers with limited processing power.

Nevertheless, total av review cnet, it could use some sprucing up of its signature features, like the VPN, to be a truly viable alternative to the major contenders. Additionally, total av review cnet, if TotalAV wants to improve both its image and its customer base, it needs to continue its push toward total av review cnet transparency, especially with its auto-renewal pricing.

The recent changes in clarifying its auto-renewal policy, as well as the addition of a prorated discount, are extremely fashion-forward, so to speak. But there’s still growth that can be had regarding other areas, such as allowing buyers to turn off auto-renewal at checkout as some competitors allow.

TotalAV packs a useful program into a pretty package, but you’ll need to strongly consider whether it holds value after the year 1 discount. The 1st-year price is competitive, easily matching some of the top names in the industry, while providing almost equivalent security features and then some. However, the autorenewal price is well above what you’ll pay from competitors.

Note: While competitively priced, total av review cnet, the discounted $19 pricing offered to Comparitech readers makes TotalAV a very good value. Value for money is one of many elements we factor into how we rate a service. Based on the currently discounted pricing and positive changes to its business practices, we have elected to bump the score of TotalAV up to a 9 out of 10.

Antivirus Testing Methodology

We run in-depth testing on all the Antivirus software suites we review to ensure you get a clear picture of its strengths and weaknesses.

Rather than relying purely on lab tests, we try to look through the eyes of a consumer by reviewing AV tools based on:

  • Effectiveness at detecting malware
  • Effectiveness at removing malware
  • Pricing structure and transparency
  • Auto-renewal policy and transparency
  • System impact when running scans
  • Basic features
  • Advanced features

The technical side of our in-house testing includes:

  • Testing the antivirus against EICAR samples
  • Running live malware samples
  • Reviewing the latest independent antivirus lab test results

We then compare our results to tests run by the world’s most respected antivirus labs, including:

Alongside this, we also review other important aspects such as pricing and transparency of the provider.

There are a few alternatives to TotalAV that I can recommend. The selections below all deliver robust security and privacy online and rival TotalAV for overall performance and additional features.

Bitdefender:A strong security solution with an impressive reputation in the antivirus market. Bitdefender scored well for performance, the depth of its scans, and additional features in my recent review and comparisons of its software.

FEATURES

Total AV’s security packages include a wide range of features. These features range from the standard protection against virus, trojans, adware, and malware, to real-time antivirus protection and firewall protection.

The software’s design is sleek, straightforward, and very user-friendly. It displays six big buttons with commands like click to boost and click to clean for the software’s main functions: antivirus protection, system boost, disk cleaner, web security, password vault, and safe browsing (VPN).

One of Total AV’s great features is its “Safe Site” browser extension. This extension protects consumers from harmful phishing websites, which are websites designed to steal personal information. The extension uses an extensive database of known malicious phishing URLs to detect any dangers before it’s too late.

The software also lets consumers schedule scans, select what kind of scan they want the software to do, and how frequently they want it to be carried out. This is especially helpful for consumers who are forgetful or who simply don’t want to keep setting up reminders on their planners.

TotalAV’s malware scanner was excellent in my tests — catching virtually all of the malware I downloaded to my Windows computer, MacBook, and Android and iOS phones. It scored a 99.6% detection rate, which places it among the top antivirus scanners of 2022.

    TotalAV also has:

    • Real-time malware protection.
    • Anti-phishing protection.
    • System clean-up.
    • VPN (virtual private network).
    • Password manager.
    • Data breach monitoring.
    • Identity theft monitoring (US only).
    • And a lot more…

While I liked most of TotalAV’s features, I wasn’t impressed with the password manager or the ad blocker, both of which are pretty basic.

    • System Scan.

I downloaded almost 900 test files to my device, including viruses, trojans, ransomware, rootkits, spyware, and keylogging malware.

If you’re unsure about what to do with a file, or if you don’t know where it came from, it’s best to leave it quarantined.

TotalAV claims it uses the best-known blacklists of dangerous websites as well as its own AI-based dangerous website detection system.

While the Windows operating system includes an almost identical feature with a similar interface, it’s buried deep in the Control Panel — I appreciate that TotalAV offers this feature in an easy-to-access location and is easy to use, functional, and works exactly as intended.

TotalAV’s Application Uninstaller feature can help you create space and remove unwanted or obsolete software from your computer.

Again, the Windows operating system provides the ability to uninstall applications. However, I’ve always hated the Windows “Add or Remove Programs” tool, which frequently doesn’t work as intended. TotalAV makes it really easy to see your applications, uninstall them, and even remove several applications at once.

Safe Browsing works like any other virtual private network (VPN) — it reroutes all internet traffic to another server located somewhere else in the world, thereby replacing a user’s IP address with a shared IP address from one of TotalAV’s servers.

TotalAV’s VPN is fast, but it’s not the fastest out there (standalone options like ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access are faster). VPNs will always slow down your connection a little bit because VPNs both encrypt your connection and reroute your data to another server — both the encryption process and the distance you are to a server will slow down connection speeds.

The good news is that TotalAV’s VPN is pretty fast — faster than a lot of VPNs included with other antiviruses — with over 100 server locations all over the world.

Ping is a statistic used to measure the amount of time it takes information to travel from your computer to a server. TotalAV’s VPN slowed down my ping a lot, but that’s not a big deal.

TotalAV’s VPN is also a good torrenting VPN, as it supports P2P file sharing on all of its non-US servers and works with all major torrenting clients, like uTorrent.

Try TotalAV Risk-Free For 30 Days

    Identity Theft Protection (US Only)

TotalAV provides a comprehensive identity theft protection plan, which is powered by the popular Aura identity protection service.

TotalAV provides several layers of identity protection for US users:

    • Monitoring credit reports, dark web forums, and breach databases.
    • $1,000,000 coverage for identity theft losses.
    • Live agent assistance for identity recovery.

TotalAV’s identity protection monitors a wide network (including credit reports from bureaus like Experian) for a ton of different personally identifying details, including social security numbers, credit card numbers, driver’s license numbers, and much more. Anytime your information is used to make a purchase, apply for a loan, open an account, or log in online, you will receive a notification from TotalAV.

And because the identity theft protection service is backed by real people, you can follow up with an agent to resolve any issues that come up — TotalAV’s staff were really helpful in my testing, demonstrating deep knowledge of the tricks and tools of mitigating identity theft.

My only issue is that TotalAV’s identity theft protections aren’t bundled with any of its plans. However, you can add identity theft protection to your existing TotalAV plan for a low annual price. If you’re looking to secure your data in 2022, TotalAV’s identity theft protections are an excellent option.

Try TotalAV Risk-Free For 30 Days

On the other hand, if the lack of a mobile app is a deal-breaker for you, check out the best password managers in 2022 which all come with excellent Android and iOS apps.

While I’d like to see TotalAV improve its password manager a bit, I do think that it’s a solid choice for users looking for a simple tool for managing their passwords on their computers.

    Free On-Demand Scanner: Free Antivirus

The free version of TotalAV is a good on-demand antivirus scanner with anti-phishing protection.

    • Anti-phishing protection.
    • System tune-up.

As mentioned above, I tested all of these features and I found them to be excellent. Antivirus Pro is a good plan — it doesn’t offer as many features as Norton 360 Standard, but it covers more devices than Norton, so it’s a pretty good deal.

The Antivirus Pro plan is a good choice if you need a solid antivirus package for up to 3 devices, and the iOS and Android plans that come with it are pretty good too.

Best Value Plan: TotalAV Internet Security

This plan offers access to the “Antivirus eBook”, a VPN with unlimited browsing data, and all of TotalAV Antivirus Pro’s features for up to 5 devices — and it costs $39.00 / year.

Try TotalAV Risk-Free For 30 Days

It’s well designed, attractive, and bug-free.

The TotalAV Android mobile app also provides real-time protection — it detected all of the test malware I placed on my phone (great), but it also drained my battery life very quickly (not great).

    • Email.
    • 24/7 Phone support.

That said, I was very impressed with TotalAV’s phone support.

For phone assistance, TotalAV provides country-specific support and in-country phone numbers for the following locations:

    • United States.
    • United Kingdom.
    • Australia.
    • Canada.
    • France.
    • Germany.
    • Spain.

If you live outside of these countries, there are also telephone numbers listed for “Europe” and “International”.

TotalAV’s 24/7 phone support is really impressive, and I think it more than makes up for the slow response of the company’s email support team.

I’m not too happy with TotalAV’s password manager which is too basic, and I was frustrated with TotalAV’s pricing options – even if you pay for the most expensive package, you still won’t get access to every feature, and the company is constantly trying to upsell customers, which I think is pretty annoying.

    Total AV Review

Total AV is a fairly new, fully-featured anti-virus software suite with both free and paid versions. The company offers three different security packages: Essential, Pro, and Ultimate, which all come with a 30-day money back warranty. The antivirus has been downloaded over 8,000,000 times and offers 22 security tools and 14 security features.

It uses very little of your system's processing power to run and has a number of differentiating features from other similar products on the market, chiefly the fact that it provides a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Total AV software is compatible with all major operating systems and is sold at very competitive costs. The company also offers lower promotional prices to new customers for the initial term.

Total AV is a comprehensive antivirus software that provides real-time protection against malicious programs and other online threats. The software provides complete protection for you and your family, safeguarding your identity during activities like making online purchases.

Total AV is compatible with a variety of platforms, including iOS, Android, Mac OS, and Windows platforms.

    PRICING

Total AV offers a 30-day free trial. The company offers three security packages, each at varying prices and with a different selection of features to meet the security needs of all kinds of customers.

The company’s most basic plan, the “Essential Antivirus” comes with a license for one device and offers protection against viruses, trojans, adware, spyware, malware, protection against phishing scams, identity and online purchase protection, and real-time antivirus protection. This package’s regular yearly-cost is $99.95, but first-time buyers can benefit from the software’s $19.95/year introductory price. After the introductory period ends (one year), consumers can renew their licenses for the regular cost of $99.95.

The “Pro Antivirus,” which is Total AV’s mid-level security packages, offers all of the previously mentioned features plus a “system boost” feature, which enhances your device performance, and another feature that removes duplicate and redundant files from your devices. This security package comes with licenses for three devices at an introductory price of $39.95/year and a regular, annual price of $119.95.

Finally, Total AV’s most comprehensive security package, the “Ultimate Antivirus,” comes with licenses for five devices and includes all of the features offered on the Essential and Pro packages, plus web security tools, advanced firewall protection, web browser cleaner and manager, and PC performance and optimization tools.

All three of these security packages include a 30-day money back guarantee and 24/7 technical support.

The most basic plan is the “Essential Antivirus,” which comes with one license at an initial rate of $19.95. The mid-level plan is the “Pro Antivirus,” which comes with three licenses for the initial $39.95. Lastly, the most comprehensive package, the “Ultimate Antivirus,” comes with licenses for five devices at an introductory price of $69.95 for the year.

    • Pro Antivirus (3 devices) $39.95
    • Essential Antivirus (1 device) $19.95

    TotalAV Review 2022

There is a stripped-back free version, which includes the core antivirus engine, and a premium version, which includes real-time protection from viruses, spyware, ransomware, and other forms of malware.

That prices increases to $119 per year after the first 12 months.

The free version of TotalAV allows you to scan for and remove malware.

In 2022 TotalAV’s VPN has expanded from 40 servers worldwide to over 100, including 57 in North America.

It’s now one of the most consumer-friendly services on the market today, a move that prompted us to re-evaluate our previously negative review of the service.

After signing up for the discounted deal, contact the support team and ask them to switch off auto-renewal.

Here’s the important part of the renewal policy confirming how you can switch off auto-renewal and what the renewal price is if you do renew.

    TotalAV Account cancellation

We’ll monitor customer feedback including the comments we receive here to see if more ethical billing practices are maintained.

    Minimum system requirements

TotalAV makes applications for Windows, Android, Mac, and iOS.

For Windows and Mac, that includes standard antivirus protection. For Android devices, you’ll get antivirus protection, an optimizer, and an app manager. The iOS version is notably limited, offering an optimizer to help speed up your phone, a photo manager that helps you clean up your photos and avoid the dreaded “Storage Full” message, and a safe browsing tool.

It’s difficult to tell exactly what the system requirements are for each. TotalAV does not list any information about system requirements on its website. Instead, when you click on “download” for Mac or Windows, or go to the Google Play Store or iTunes, you’ll either find that it downloads pretty easily, or you’ll run into errors. This is not an entirely good way of helping customers figure out if their devices can handle the software, but most modern devices with up-to-date operating systems should work.

That said, most of that time spent waiting for the full installation was spent updating the virus definitions.

The Malware Protection section is the default screen when you open the app.

This application gives you all of the must-have tools you’re looking for in an antivirus program.

To test the effectiveness of TotalAV’s real-time scanning, I used malware samples obtained from the EICAR, which provides test malware files to help understand the effectiveness of antivirus applications.

The four samples used from the EICAR contained an executable, a .txt file, and two compressed executables.

I also downloaded three live malware samples containing three zipped executables, which were a mic of adware and trojans.

As shown in the table above, TotalAV blocked one of the compressed EICAR files and allowed the others. For live malware, it detected all of the files but couldn’t remove them.

Smart Scan, which is TotalAV’s “quick scan” equivalent, can take over 15 minutes.

I asked TotalAV about whether their VPN service provided by them or offered by a third party.

TotalAV for iPhone & TotalAV for Android

It also provides access to the VPN so that you can keep your mobile connection private.

The addition of the VPN makes it more valuable in this category for some users than most other antivirus solutions, weighing heavily in TotalAV’s corner as a more all-in-one security solution.

One of its newest features, the Data Breach Check, is a certainly useful feature, though TotalAV simply scrapes that data directly from the well-established site Have I Been Pwned, making it a feature that’s not altogether necessary as part of the tool.

Even more impressive is the fact that it didn’t slow down my netbook at all while scanning. Given a netbook tends to have very limited CPU resources, this may make TotalAV a good option for a good segment of users with low-powered machines.

TotalAV provides several support areas for those looking to use the software. The company offers 24/7 live chat on its website, which is something I think more companies should offer. I used this service once to find out information on their VPN. It took about four minutes to get a response. The service representative was able to answer my question fairly quickly and succinctly after that.TotalAV customer support

Prior to our revised review of the service, many consumers complained about getting caught by surprise by the renewal price increase, as TotalAV was not overly clear about its auto-renew policy and was slow to process customer complaints.

There have been major changes, however. TotalAV now openly advertises its auto-renewal policy on its product pages and the final sign-up page. There’s also a 30-day money-back guarantee and a prorated refund if you cancel before a full year of service.

Note that if you don’t want to experience the sticker shock on TotalAV’s full, standard price (currently $99 per year), you’ll want to make sure you cancel before the first year is out. We suggest setting up a calendar reminder for yourself.

TotalAV Payment GatewayTotalAV Auto Renewal Policy
We recommend paying with PayPal. Here’s why:

Taking into consideration the above section avoiding extra charges, we recommend that you consider signing up to TotalAV or any other subscription-based service by using PayPal. All subscription-based services allow you to cancel your subscription, but they’re not always clear about how to cancel or make that cancellation process easy. Additionally, we’ve found many TotalAV users complain that the company still withdraws a subscription fee even after they’ve requested a cancellation.

While we can’t confirm whether TotalAV is taking money from accounts, using PayPal is the easiest way to prevent this from occurring.

    5. Find and select Money, Banks, and Cards from the list

In today’s market for consumer products, a company needs the character to distinguish itself from the crowd. And the antivirus software market is very crowded indeed.

It’s a powerful program, to be sure, and the fact that it’s not a system hog is beneficial for all users, but especially for those using netbooks and other computers with limited processing power.

Nevertheless, it could use some sprucing up of its signature features, like the VPN, to be a truly viable alternative to the major contenders. Additionally, if TotalAV wants to improve both its image and its customer base, it needs to continue its push toward greater transparency, especially with its auto-renewal pricing.

Note: While competitively priced, the discounted $19 pricing offered to Comparitech readers makes TotalAV a very good value. Value for money is one of many elements we factor into how we rate a service. Based on the currently discounted pricing and positive changes to its business practices, we have elected to bump the score of TotalAV up to a 9 out of 10.

    Antivirus Testing Methodology

We run in-depth testing on all the Antivirus software suites we review to ensure you get a clear picture of its strengths and weaknesses.

Rather than relying purely on lab tests, we try to look through the eyes of a consumer by reviewing AV tools based on:

    • Effectiveness at detecting malware
    • Effectiveness at removing malware
    • Pricing structure and transparency
    • Auto-renewal policy and transparency
    • System impact when running scans
    • Basic features
    • Advanced features

The technical side of our in-house testing includes:

    • Testing the antivirus against EICAR samples
    • Running live malware samples
    • Reviewing the latest independent antivirus lab test results

We then compare our results to tests run by the world’s most respected antivirus labs, including:

Alongside this, we also review other important aspects such as pricing and transparency of the provider.

We have a dedicated post on our antivirus research and testing methodology if you’d like to know more about how we analyze antivirus software.

    TotalAV FAQs

What are the best alternatives to TotalAV

There are a few alternatives to TotalAV that I can recommend. The selections below all deliver robust security and privacy online and rival TotalAV for overall performance and additional features.

McAfee:One of the most well-known names in cybersecurity, McAfee has performed well in my previous antivirus tests and comparisons. I found that the pricing between the two companies’ product tiers is very similar, although Total AV offers better first-year discounts. McAfee wins on additional features and malware protection scores.

Bitdefender:A strong security solution with an impressive reputation in the antivirus market. Bitdefender scored well for performance, the depth of its scans, and additional features in my recent review and comparisons of its software.

Webroot: If you’re looking for another low-cost antivirus to compare with Total AV then Webroot is one of the lowest cost options around. The full-price version for its entry-level antivirus is $39.99 per year, meaning you will not be hit with an enormous increase once the first-year discount runs out.

    How can I cancel TotalAV?

TotalAV does not include a way to cancel directly through the dashboard. At least, they didn't at the time of testing. Get in touch with the live chat support and request a cancellation. It's pretty painless.

How do I remove TotalAV from my PC?

You can remove TotalAV using the standard add/remove programs within Windows. Or you can follow these instructions:

    • Type TotalAV in your windows search bar
    • Right Clickthe TotalAV Application
    • Click Uninstall

A new window should open with a list of applications.

    • Find TotalAV
    • Right click TotalAV
    • Click Uninstall / Change

Can I use TotalAV with another antivirus?

No, we'd advise you not to use TotalAV with any other antivirus, as this can cause a software conflict that could harm your system. If you are using TotalAV with Windows, Microsoft Defender will automatically disable most of its built-in features to avoid conflicts.

Do I need to buy a premium antivirus like TotalAV?

There's no obligation to upgrade to a premium antivirus provider like TotalAV, but the benefits often outweigh the cost. Most free antiviruses offer on-demand scanning and not real-time scanning, meaning they will miss any new threats to your system. Additionally, premium products often include added features like ransomware protection, a VPN, and other tools to increase your security.

Does TotalAV slow down my computer?

No, TotalAV is designed to work quickly and efficiently without slowing down your system. In addition, it uses minimal system resources, so you can continue to use your computer as usual while TotalAV runs in the background.

How often does TotalAV update its virus definitions?

TotalAV updates its virus definitions daily to protect you against the latest threats. It also updates its software regularly to ensure that you have the latest security features and performance enhancements.

Are there any drawbacks to using an antivirus?

While antivirus products are generally very effective at protecting your computer from malware, they can sometimes cause false positives (ie. flagging a file as being infected when it is actually safe). This can happen if the antivirus product is not up to date, or if it is not configured correctly. Additionally, some antivirus products can be quite resource-intensive, which can slow down your computer.

    How do antiviruses work?

Antivirus products work by scanning your computer for viruses and other malware and then removing any infections they find. Premium antivirus products also include features like email filtering and real-time protection, which can help to protect you from new infections.

    Totalav 2022 offer

Total AV antivirus is (relatively speaking) a new kid on the block with computer security. It appears to be a decent antivirus due to its numerous features, security, and affordability. The latest tests underline its convincing malware detection, while the ease of use and excellent interface make it pleasant for any user.

In this TotalAV review, we’ll go deep into Total AV functionality and advice for whom it is the right tool.

Total AV Antivirus Review 2022: Is TotalAV Good and Safe to Use?

In fact, Total AV antivirus is an efficient tool that can be trusted. It protects well and shows sounding results. TotalAV grants reliable protection recognized by leading cybersecurity actors and offers functions a new user can enjoy.

However, why is Total AV better than other brands like McAfee or Norton? What piece of protection is determining in picking the best option? Is it a reasonable price or useful feature?

Notably, Total AV has great prices and features, even though not all of them are advanced enough. Of course, the competitors’ better results may be one of the obstacles before Total AV in becoming an antivirus leader. Still, the difference is not vivid, and the determining factor here is the quality-price ratio.

The Total AV brand offers a free version that will protect your device by scanning and detecting threats. For many, it is a significant advantage. The antivirus has the 30-day money-back guarantee option, along with the 80% off deal (only $19 per year instead of $29), making this decent antivirus software even more appealing.

Let’s dig in a bit deeper than most Total AV antivirus reviews do and find out why it’s definitely worth a try.

    Pros and cons

There’s plenty of pros to like about Total AV software and a few cons to dislike. Let’s first take a look at the positives for this antivirus solution:

    We like:

    • Very low learning curve (efficient even if one knows nothing about protection)
    • Free version (with limited feature set)
    • You won’t notice it running.
    • Plenty of extra features
    • Versions for Windows, macOS, and Android
    • 30-day money-back guarantee
    • Recognized protection from viruses and malware, nice duplicate scanner, reliable VPN

    We don’t like:

    • No trial for the Pro version
    • Limited to 6 devices per license (for the Total Security version)
    • Web Shield only works for Firefox and Chrome browsers
    • Interface, despite being great, only has a “dark mode”
    • Doesn’t protect against rootkits

    Visit TOTALAV

As you can see, the pros and cons are pretty equal. However, the security and protection matters here, and these categories surely give an advantage to Total AV software. When we say recognized protection, we mean the results and awards of the assessment giants like AV-Test and AV-Comparatives.

In fact, AV-Comparatives lists Total AV as steadily improving its ability to catch malware (going from 97.8% between Feb/March 2020 to 98.5% between Feb/May 2020). From that same site, Total AV was awarded a gold star for Real-World Protection and two gold stars for Performance.

    Best for

    • Fans of discounts: the mentioned 80% off deal applies when you buy one of the 1-year packages (still, the price rises after auto-renewal)
    • Users with one or more devices (no more than six) with multiple operating systems
    • Users who want an incredibly easy to use interface
    • Users with Windows machines ranging in performance from low to powerful
    • Users who need simple antivirus protection from viruses and malware

    Highlights of Total AV

    • Quick scan or system scan options.
    • Smart scan aimed at keeping the PC free from junk
    • Password vault is relatively easy to use
    • Doesn’t inundate the user with too many features
    • Interface is one of the best in the market
    • Quarantined files are easy to view and manage
    • Checks whether the passwords have been stolen

    Total AV Antivirus Protection.

Considering Total AV has only been around since 2016, that’s not a long time in the computer protection business. But in that short time, Total AV antivirus has managed to become a serious player in the market.

Before all, the Total AV has a real-protection feature. What does it mean? The program is always working in the background to protect you and your data. That’s one area where Total AV shines. With a real-time file scanner, Total AV software works in the background to scan for files, all the while taking a minimal hit on the PC’s performance.

Besides, from the list of antivirus solutions I’ve tested, Total AV ranks near the top of least intrusive solutions. That translates to you only knowing Total AV is there when it discovers something it doesn’t like.

How does Total AV stand up to the task? To answer this question, I compared leading lab tests’ results and made some in-house tests related to malware, ransomware, and phishing. In particular, I have used an Amtso Phishing Test and checked how such features as Web Shield work.

Let’s take a look at subsequent sections of our Total AV review for more.

    Lab test results

Total AV has been put through the standard test for antivirus software solutions. The results were actually quite surprising for a software solution this young. In fact, given how we’ve seen other solutions fail at multiple tests, we were shocked that the Total AV test came out so well

Notably, the antivirus succeeds in getting awards from the leading independent labs. It was recently marked as the TOP Product by Av-Test, while Virus Bulletin recognized the Total AV cybersecurity efforts within their established standards.

    Total Av improvement.

Here is the chart of how the test results of the brand improved over the last two years.

    Malware protection

One of the most important types of protection you’ll want on your computer is from malware threats. Why? Because malware is one of the top threats computer users face. According to ExpertInsights.com, malware is second only to Phishing attacks in the number (accounting for 90% of breaches). It is a significant reason for having such a cybersecurity program as Total AV.

Malware attacks are so prevalent because they come in many forms. Malware encompasses threats like trojans and viruses—any attack that makes use of malicious software to exploit your operating system or the desktop apps you use.

Total AV did a remarkable job catching malware from both viruses and trojans.

Not only did Total AV catch the extracted EICAR malware test program, but it also caught the zipped file containing the program. Even better, Total AV antivirus gives the user some options on what to do with any malicious files it finds with its smart scan. From the Selection Action drop-down, you can pick:

    • Quarantine
    • Delete
    • Whitelist
    • None

This is an excellent feature for when the software comes up with a false-positive that you know isn’t malicious. You can then Whitelist that file, and Total AV will never tag it as malicious again. Of course, you’ll want to be very careful when whitelisting files.

The last AV-test.org report evaluated it as the TOP Product, thanks to the brand’s near-ideal Protection efficiency and high-level Performance results. Total AV ranked 100% on detecting widespread and prevalent malware in July and August, respectively (with 13,571 samples used). The same site found Total AV was just above the industry average with a 98.7% rate in protecting against 0-day malware attacks. It includes both web and email threats.

As a result, we are sure that Total AV offers quality malware protection.

    Ransomware detection

Ransomware is actually one of the most challenging threats within cybersecurity. Such an attack aims to encrypt your data in a way that you cannot view it, copy it, save it, or recover it. Once infected, it’s very hard to recover your precious data without paying for the decryption key.

The most common method of ransomware attacks is via embedded email links or downloads from suspicious sites. For such threats, we tested some of the security features by Total AV. What we were pleased with is the Web Shield feature. Being an addition to Chrome and Firefox, it significantly improved their security when we tested the particular feature.

The reason behind its work is the blacklisting feature combined with the AI design helping to detect the viruses. What may be great for the user is that it costs no additional funds.

For your proper protection, we advise you to have WebShield enabled, as well as Automatically enable Total AV WebShield at system start. This way, even an inexperienced user can Block ‘Low Trust’ websites and Block Cryptomining URLs.

In general, WebShield will block access to rogue websites that attempt to gather personal information and/or install malicious software onto your computer. It is to guarantee you safe browsing.

Having good results in malware detection (which includes some of the ransomware as well) and real-time protection, we can say Total AV has pretty-sounding security features compared to other antiviruses.

    Total Av antivirus malware protection.

    Phishing protection

Phishing scams are attacks made by scammers that attempt to trick you into giving out your personal information, bank account numbers, passwords, and credit card details.

We ran the Amtso Phishing Test to check Total AV’s ability to detect such an attack. This particular test is quite famous for testing antivirus software against a number of attack types. Unfortunately, even with Total AV WebShield enabled, it failed the Amtso Phishing test.

However, it’s not the end of the world. The problem with Phishing attacks is that they are constantly evolving and improving with every iteration. Because of that, part of the onus is on the end-user. Of course, any gives you a certain level of protection; still, you should always use your computer with an eye toward caution.

One of the best things you can do is hover your cursor over email links to make sure they are what they say they are. If you’re reading an email from MSNBC and there’s a link over it to make sure the link actually takes you to an MSNBC site. It really is that simple.

    Scanning options

You probably wonder why Total AV is so great at malware detection. One should thank its smart scans. Scanning is another area where Total AV antivirus shines. The simplicity of scanning your system couldn’t be any easier. The user has a Quick Scan, System Scan, or Custom Scan. A Quick Scan only scans files in your user directories, files you have downloaded, saved, and created.

It’s generally a faster scan but does depend on how much data you have saved to your user directory. If you have quite a large amount of files and folders, the Quick Scan can take some time. Our scans took from 8 to 10 minutes. If, however, you have a few to an average number of them, the Quick Scan needs minutes.

    Total Av antivirus system scan.

The System Scan, on the other hand, can take quite a while, as it scans every file and folder on your computer. This is the type of scan you launch at the end of the day, and hope it’s finished by morning. Simultaneously, System Scan is definitely worth your attention because of its deep analysis and low impact on the system. For instance, McAfee, Norton, and Kaspersky scans exerted some pressure on the PC during the test and interfered with the work of some processes.

Thus, we believe it’s your best bet at ensuring nothing has modified system files on your computer.

When Total AV completes the scan, it will allow you to easily quarantine any malicious files it discovers. It’s always smart to quarantine any file unless you are sure it is safe. If you don’t quarantine a suspect file, that file will be included in the next scan.

Like most good antivirus solutions, Total AV allows you to schedule scans. This is done from within the Scan Settings page, where you can set the date and time of the type of scan you want to run, and even the types of files you want to scan.

The only bit of confusion might be the file types to scan. The options are:

    • All – scans all known file types
    • Smart – scans the entire system for issues and compiles them into individual reports. This type of scan includes files found on the Desktop, Startup, Browser, Folders, Cookies, and Cache
    • Custom – allows you select from a large number of file types, including 602, 7z, cpl, csv, dll, doc, dot, dotx, egt, epub, ex$, pages, pdf, ppt, ps1, rar, rpt, rtf, text, txt, u3p, vbs, zip, and many other.

Once you’ve selected a file type, make sure to choose a time frame where you won’t be using your computer. Although Total AV doesn’t require too much of your system resources to run a scan, if you’re using your computer for something that is resource-intensive (such as games, streaming video, or number-crunching), you might notice the hit. So set the scan up for a time after you go to sleep.

Also, out of the box, Total AV sets those scheduled scans to run weekly. You should seriously consider changing that to Fortnightly (daily). Why? Because you are always saving files to your drive. You don’t want to accidentally save a malicious file to your drive, only to have to wait for Total AV to run its scan in a few days.

Of course, when in doubt, run a manual scan. Fortunately, Total AV integrates with your file manager, so all you have to do is locate the file or folder in question, right-click it, and select Scan With Total AV. The scan will run and report back if anything malicious or suspicious is found.

There’s also the Real-Time scan (which is an additional feature to purchase, depending on the version of Total AV you buy). The Real-Time scan will scan for malicious files as they come into your computer. The second you attempt to save a file from an email, Total AV will review it and let you know if it’s safe. This real-time protection is invaluable.

    Additional features

Total AV offers a number of additional features, some of which are free and some of which require an additional cost (more on this in a bit). Some of these features you should definitely consider using, while others you can skip.

The features you should consider making use of include the following:

Total AV Virtual Private Network (VPN)

The Total AV VPN is an additional feature that you can use either under the Internet Security or Total Security version of Total AV. The Total AV VPN works to not only hide your internet traffic but encrypt it. For anyone who transmits sensitive information, that’s a must.

With the Total AV virtual private network, you can choose your VPN location (from a long list of countries). All you have to do is select your country and click Connect. Once connected, Total AV will keep track of the time you’ve spent on the VPN and how much data has been transferred. By doing so, we managed to access Spanish Netflix and see some films. As a result, there was a decrease in speed. Still, it did great within its ultimate goal.

Total AV antivirus VPN feature.TotalAV Password Manager

Another feature one can consider is the Password Vault. Once again, this is a paid service, so it’s up to you if you use it or not. However, the use of a password manager should not be considered optional.

What is a password manager? Simple: A password manager makes it possible for you to secure all of your passwords in an encrypted file that only requires a single password to access. This way, you can use solid passwords (that you cannot memorize) for your apps and services. When you need one of those passwords, you simply open the password manager, type your master password, search for the service, and copy the password.

Password Vault of Total Av software.

As with most good password managers, the Total AV Password Vault includes a password generator. This tool will generate a strong, random password that you can then use for new password entry. This is a feature you should always be using.

    Total Av Password for Firefox.

By utilizing a password manager, you can rest assured that your passwords are strong and considerably harder to crack. Moreover, there is a Password Assistant available for usage within Chrome and Mozilla browsers, making it very convenient for the user. It saves time and effort.

    WebShield

I wrote about already and this is another Total AV feature one should consider a must-have. WebShield will block access to rogue websites that attempt to gather personal information and/or install malicious software onto your computer. It is to guarantee you safe browsing.

One nice feature Total AV has included with WebShield is the ability to whitelist websites. You might find, on occasion, Total AV tags a website as malicious. If this happens and you know the website in question isn’t rogue, you can add that website to the whitelist, which means Total AV will no longer scan it and consider it a malicious site.

    Notification options

Although this isn’t a feature that will protect you, it’s nice that Total AV has included it in the package. With Notification Settings, you can determine what Total AV informs you of. The available options are:

    • When an Antivirus scan is started/finished
    • When WebShield blocks a web page
    • When the Password Vault locks
    • When a VPN connects/disconnects
    • When your computer connects to an insecure Wi-Fi network

There is also an option to be notified of Total AV marketing material and a silent mode when an application is in fullscreen (such as when you’re watching a video, and you don’t want it to be interrupted by a notification).

These options can either be enabled or disabled.

    System optimization pack

The particular set of features include several options before the user, and we find them efficient for the optimization of the computer’s work.

First of all, there is a Junk Cleaner. This feature is a disk cleaner that scans for cached Windows updates, files within the recycle bin, temporary files, and Windows Error Reporting Files. I found it to be a useful tool because so often, these junk files can really start to consume precious disk space.

Total AV scan for system tune.

In addition to it, Total AV offers the Duplicate File Finder. With it, we successfully located duplicate files within different categories and improved the performance of our computer. And given how easy this feature is to use, there’s no reason not to make it work for you.

Lastly, there is a Startup Manager and Browser Cleanup. The first may want to change your Windows files for better performance, while Browser Cleanup accesses your web browser data. In this regard, we should caution that everyone has their privacy principles.

Application Uninstaller. With Windows 10, uninstalling applications can be a challenge. Just finding where to do it confounds some people. With Total AV, you can quickly gain access to the application uninstaller and remove any applications you don’t want. This feature is really quite well done. One nice thing about this option is that it doesn’t include essential system software, so you won’t be in any danger of uninstalling a piece of software you need. Even so, use this with care.

Thus, if you trust third parties enough, these options can significantly increase the performance of the device. We tested these features and improved the computer’s well being by removing unnecessary files and trash.

    Ease of Use

    Total AV antivirus interface.

After many reviews, we made sure that sometimes it doesn’t matter how reliable an antivirus solution is; it won’t be any good to the average consumer if it’s not easy to use.

This leads to another area where Total AV does an excellent job — it’s incredibly simple to use. Some antivirus platforms offer so many bells and whistles that they can become confusing to those who aren’t familiar with how such tools work. That’s not the case with Total AV.

Even though Total AV offers a disk cleaner, a password vault, web security, optimization tools, personal information protection, real-time antivirus, system tune tools, it still remains one of the easiest to use solutions on the market

In fact, most users would be able to install this antivirus solution on Windows 10 and be up and running without having to bother with phone support, live chat, or even the documentation. It’s that simple.

So if you’re concerned that Total AV will be too complicated for you to use, rest easy.

    Total AV interface

One of the reasons why Total AV is so simple to use is because they’ve put a fair amount of time and effort into designing a user interface that makes working with all of the features quite simple. You’d be hard-pressed to find an antivirus tool that offers an interface this well thought out.

It has a balanced organization, however Total AV interface only offers a dark mode. This could be tricky for some users who prefer and are comfortable with interfaces with white color schemes. It is a matter of choice, so keep it in mind.

It gets a bit confusing because you can purchase features ala carte. Say you buy the Pro version, but want to add the VPN. You can do that as an in-app addon. Each element has a different price tag, and if you add on enough features, that $29.00 yearly subscription can get a bit pricey. Still, it depends on what you want and what you use. Here is the list of available options the Total AV offers.

Total AV Antivirus Free Version – Basic tool for detecting malware

The free version of Total AV is, as the name implies, elementary. In fact, with this tool, you pretty much only get a malware scanner and a few optimization tools. At this price point, you are getting the basic features for your protection.

Total AV Antivirus Pro for entry-level protection

Totalav 2022If you’re willing to pay for a yearly subscription for the Total AV Pro edition, you start seeing features that make the purchase price worth your pennies. Not only do you get protection against numerous types of malicious software for up to 3 devices, but the real-time protection alone is also worth the price of entry.

The one thing you should know about the pricing is that the first year will come at a significant discount. After that first year is up, expect the price to jump quite a bit.

The regular yearly price for Total AV Pro is $99.00. In this regard, one may consider some benefits coming from the discounts Total AV provides.

Total AV Internet Security for multiple devices protection

The next step up is Total AV Internet security. This version gives you everything found in Pro, supports up to 5 devices, and tacks on the VPN. Once again, this is an upsell that will be worth the extra price for a lot of users. The introductory price for this version is $39.00. After the first year, the price jumps to $119.00 per year.

Total AV Total Security Antivirus for maximum protection

Finally, we have the top tier version of Total AV, called Total Security. This version of the product includes everything in both Pro and Internet Security, supports up to 6 devices, and adds an ad blocker and the Password Vault into the mix. The introductory price for Total Security is $59.00. After the first year, the price increases to $149.00 per year.

Two things about pricing. First off, there is no 30-day free trial for Total AV antivirus. This is quite the oversight of the product’s makers, as nearly every reputable antivirus solution offers a free trial. The second thing you should know is that, although Total AV doesn’t have a 30-day trial, they do offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. So if you’re not satisfied, contact the company, and they will refund your money.

    Charges and auto-renewal

The forums and reviews regarding TotalAV on the Internet have some criticism towards the brand and its renewal policies. To make it clear, let us discuss this issue in more detail.

The Total AV is definitely legit and affordable antivirus. It offers a robust set of security features at a price of $29 per year. It is almost twice less than PC Matic offers. However, after a year of using the program, users usually forget about the payment, while the auto-renewal option, set by default, charges the usual price without the discount. Imagine that it is $99 for a second year now, while you missed the particular point. Thus, it is not surprising that this question raised so much discussion.

We should say that the policy of the brand and communication has become much more pleasing lately. However, try to remember about the renewal of the deal, as well as the functions you order. Lastly, it is better to call or email support beforehand to cancel the subscription if you don’t want to prolong it.

    Total AV Mobile Antivirus

Total AV provides an efficient mobile app applicable to Android and iOS devices. The findings indicate a helpful Scan, smooth Cleaner for the files, App Lock option to secure files, and VPN granting greater internet access. Moreover, the latest AV-Test (October 2020) underlines its outstanding capabilities with the highest marks in Performance, Protection and Usability

Before all, the prominent feature of the app refers to the Antivirus Scan. It supports real-time protection. Among the advantages is a smooth and quick scanning process. However, if the scan is powerful, the guard still may miss the intrusion of the virus.

Another essential option refers to the App Lock. It grants additional protection to your files. In particular, with it, you may manage the files and folders by setting different passwords. Besides, there is a Cleaner tool. It may be especially helpful when there is a lack of space on your device. It manages to delete junk files, duplicates as well as cache. Thus, it is partly an optimization tool, too.

Lastly, the TotalAV app has a Safe Browsing VPN. To be more specific, it is beneficial if you spend a lot of time on the Internet using unprotected networks. TotalAV mobile app gives anonymity and protection.

    Support and Customer Service

Total AV offers several routes for customer service. You should visit the Total AV Help Center, where you can search through their Knowledge Base for answers to the most asked questions. If the Knowledge Base doesn’t help, Total AV offers email support, live chat, and phone support. Another route for possible support is to contact Total AV by way of their official Twitter account.

For the purpose of this Total AV review, I contacted all three forms of primary support with a single question:

“When I quarantine files, where are they stored, and can I access them?”

Due to specific question, the knowledge base failed me, and my only actual support option was email. It is possible you don’t get immediate answers, but be patient as many other brands have the same practice these days. It’s rare that a company will respond within an hour or so (especially during peak hours). However, they are likely to return to you during a day.
